This ride is the Best way to spend a Full Day (5-8 Hours) in the Canyons and Mountains of the Bryce Canyon Geological Region – also called “Color Country.”
Not only will you experience Utah’s Famous “Color Country“ Red Rocks, but the geological stratification along this route has every color of the Rainbow- including some of Utahs best rare Blue-Green Hoodoos topping spires of grey Super-Volcanic Ash tuffs.
There are two primary ways to do this ride. One way is as a leisurely ride starting at 6500’ in the Panguitch Valley, riding through 3 or 4 Canyons in a 45 Mile Loop with your picnic lunch plan for Peterson Point. This amazing promontory at about 8200’ is accessed by a 3 mile trail section along a one-of-a-kind panoramic ridge line trail surrounded by Mountain & Canyon Views in all directions, ending at the 36o degree Peterson viewpoint. At the Point you will find a picnic table deep in the backcountry provided by The Bryce ATV Rally Committee and the Garfield County Rough Riders!
The second way to approach this ride is as a 65 Mile High Country Tour, the first section being the Ascent to Peterson Point described earlier, through either Casto Canyon and Barney Cove Slot Canyon or Lime Kiln & Middle Hancock Canyons.
After Peterson Point, your continuing ride plan takes you North through Lower Hancock & / or Lime Kiln Canyons and then ascends to the highest point of the ride, the Blind Spring Mountain Saddle Summit- at almost 9000′. After that you’ll continue further NE, where you will be some 30 miles into the wilderness, touring the numerous high elevation aspen groves and ancient Volcanic debris flows as 10,426′ Adams Head Peak & 11,000’ Mt Dutton tower above you. Finally you will descend back to 6500’ Panguitch in the Valley below, via Sanford Creek Canyon. This ride has a cumulative vertical ascent/ descent of about 5000’ !
