For an explanation of the Unique Geology of this Ride see the Post Titled “Large Scale Volcanic Influence of Lime Kiln Canyon”
Our most popular 2 hour route for the larger four and six seat UTVs. Popular with all sizes of vehicles, including ATVs, dirt bikes, and 2 Seat UTVs as well for shorter rides OR if conditions or rider inexperience are not suitable for Casto Canyon.
From the River Lane Trailhead next to Garfield Regional Hospital on the North East Corner of Panguitch: Proceed East on Paved River Lane 1/4 mile East and Curve Due North (staying on River Lane) 2 Miles to Airport Road. Turn Right (Due East) for 1 mile on the Paved Airport Road. At the Airport Gate bare Left on BLM dirt road 2350. Follow 2350 around the northern end of the runway and continue East for 3 Miles until the 2350 Road reaches a dry wash. Cross over Dry Wash diagonally following vehicle tracks to the opposite side. 2350 is now a more narrow dirt trail. 1 Mile further East 2350 crosses a Cattle Grate and ends, becoming Forest Service trail 202; notice the sign that welcomes you to The Dixie National Forest at this cattle grate – just after you entered the treeline on 2350. This is the Entrance to Lime Kiln Canyon. Switch to LOW RANGE in all UTV’s at this point, and all ATV’s if so equipped.
It is 8 miles up this rugged volcanic Lime Kiln Canyon to the Top where you’ll encounter the only Trail Intersection since you crossed the Cattle Grate at the bottom where you passed the Dixie National Forest Sign. You are now 14 Miles out from Panguich. 2 Hour Rentals turn around here (or sooner if you are out of time) and proceed back to American ATV Rentals retracing your steps the way you came. The only restroom on this route is the dry toilet at the River Lane Trailhead.
